Newton Baby Mattress, Is It Worth It?

Today I want to break down all the details on the Newton Baby Mattress and compare it to the standard crib mattresses on the market.

We recently purchased the Newton Baby mattress when my son was 10 months old, after reading the reviews of the great sleep these babies were getting. My son has STRUGGLED for months with his sleep so we were willing to try anything.

After receiving the mattress I realized how different this mattress is and I knew I HAD to review it for you all.

As always I will break down the prices, the features, the the different versions of this mattress and how it really compares to a standard one.

Let’s get into it.

What is Newton Baby?

Newton Baby is a fully breathable and washable crib mattress that does not require sheets. You can simply unzip the mattress, wash the outside covering in the washer and wash the inside with a hose or a shower.

Versions of Newton Baby

Essential: $250

Original: $300

Waterproof: $350

We personally decided to go with the Original so that’s what I have to speak on but I will break down why we went with this one.

The essential mattress is 4 inches thick and has a single layer covering on the outside while the original and waterproof are 5.5 inches thick and have a dual layer on the outside.

A standard crib mattress which typically will run around $80-$100 is 5.5 inches thick so that eliminated the essential right way.

Now as for the differences between the original and the waterproof I couldn’t find much. The only real difference is the outside covering is waterproof which for an extra $50 doesn’t make much sense to me when the mattress is completely washable. So that eliminated the waterproof version leaving us with the original.

Standard Mattress Thoughts

Standard crib mattresses are significantly cheaper which is why we went with that from the start. With that cheaper price point in mind we have the consider the fact that a standard crib mattress is miserably hard. I personally could never and would never sleep on it. How can I ask my toddler too?

Although I do believe the Newton would have been too soft for my comfort as a newborn. I believe the extremely hard mattress is needed as the learn to roll for the safely of the little one. I don’t know that I would have trusted it to be breathable.

Is it Worth It?

This is 100% up to your situation.

We needed any option that would help our son sleep and after purchasing it he slept the longest he had slept in months.

But as I said before I don’t know that I would have felt okay with him having it from the start so that is a hefty price tag on mattresses.

You may also need to take into consideration how long your child will actually use this mattress. If you plan to have them skip the toddler bed phase this is probably not worth the price tag.

I feel my son realized his original mattress wasn’t comfortable and I don’t think he was going to get good sleep again until we changed his bed. So it was definitely worth it for us.

Newton also offers a 100 day sleep well guarantee so you have quite a large return window.
