The Best and Worst of Baby Products for 6-9 Month Olds

So today I want to give you guys all my favorites from month 6-9 now that my sweet boy is 11 months old. We did newborn item favorites which did really well and I feel we used those without to many changes until 6 months. I thought adding the worst of months 6-9 might be fun too. I always find it helpful to know what didn’t work for people.

As always i’ll be separating into categories. Today we have the eating category and the play category because I feel those are the two important changes in our little ones around this age group. I will go in with favorites first and then fails in each category.

Lets start with meal time favorites and fails.

Eating

Around 6 months is when most babies begin solid foods in some form and our worlds really change with them. I had no idea how I really wanted to go about this so we made A LOT of purchases. Some things we loved and some we really hated.

Favorites

Munchkin Bowls– These have a great price point and worked great as a starter item if you plan to feed purees or cereal.

Training Spoons– We LOVE these still. Perfect for helping little ones learn how to feed themselves and it is also teether textured.

Nuk Training Cup– My son caught on to sippy cups right away and I think it was because of these. The handles can be taken off for when they are older and they come in tons of sizes and colors.

EzPz Plate: The BEST plate, great suction, microwave safe and SO cute. These come in multiple sizes and colors. It also comes with a travel case for restaurants or families homes.

Pouches: When I was making purees I definitely needed a way to store them and these were great. Now I use them for snacks a lot, apple sauce, yogurt, smoothies and they go perfectly with the next item.

Food Pouch Top: These are GREAT. You can apply them to store bought pouches or the pouches above and all the baby has to do is suck on it and the food comes out. It can’t be squeezed so no messes.

Fails

Munchkin Straw Cup: The leaking, oh man, Its a no for me. The price point was great because straw cups can tend to be pricey but this leaked everywhere almost always.

Munchkin Plates: The suction just doesn’t work and when you are starting out with finger foods, they want to lift the plate. The first time I gave this to my son he had food EVERYWHERE.

Munchkin Teething Nets: These were a large fail for me, I couldn’t get them clean no matter how much I tried. I think the idea is great, just prefer a plastic or silicone option.

Love/Hate

Highchairs are so hard I can’t tell you I hate these but I also can’t tell you I love them

Ikea High Chair: I wanted this to be the answer to my high chair issues but it just wasn’t. EVERYONE and their mama swears by this thing but to me it doesn’t seem safe. My son can be pretty wild at times and it seemed like he could throw himself out if he wanted. I could be completely over dramatic but I like to allow my son to snack or play in his highchair while I cook meals and I felt I couldn’t walk even an inch away while he was in this.

Chicco Polly High Chair: I promise you will never keep this clean but it does have some great features. The chair reclines so younger infants can join at the dinner table that aren’t yet sitting up, it lowers so it can be brought up to the table like a normal chair and it has a removable tray. My only hate for this is how dirty it is all the time. Im kind of cleaning crazy so this REALLY bothers me. It bothers me enough I bought the IKEA high chair.

Play

Our babies become mobile around this time and the idea of play changes so much, now they can really explore.

Favorites

Lovevery Play Gym: The play gym was a newborn must have for me since it is great for beginning sensory play but as my son got older he loved the added tent feature. He would get so excited to hide from us and play peek a boo. I 10/10 recommend the play gym we just now at 11 months stopped using it because he’s to big so we upgraded him to a large tent.

Baby Care Play Mat: This is THE BEST play mat, Its pricey but it is worth it. I asked my fellow moms on Facebook if they thought it was needed to get a play mat this late, so many told me no. Personally wouldn’t have gotten it any sooner. I give this thing full credit for my son beginning to crawl and it gives me peace of mind that if he falls over while he’s climbing around he has such a thick comfortable landing instead of the floor.

Touch and Feel Books- Sensory books are SO good for this age group, we have so many good ones but our favorite is Never Touch a Dinosaur.

Fisher Price Shape Sorter-This is such a good one. Im not huge on fisher price toys but the price point for this is great and its still a simple toy. We use the shapes to practice the names, build tours and now he is actually learning where them go into the bin at.

Lovevery Play Kits– These NEVER disappoint as you can tell from my previous articles. We started with the 5-6 month box and I kind of think that was the perfect starting point. Target now also sells individual Lovevery toys if you catch them when they are in stock.

Fails

V tech Walker– I found that this would fall over when he would pull himself up on it. It was also way to distracting. Originally I had planned on getting the IKEA Mula Wagon Walker and personally I wish I would have, nothing to distract him and a place to push things around which he now loves to do.

Thank you for being here another week! Thats it for this week, make sure to check out previous articles below and follow me on Instagram and TikTok for daily content.
