12 Baby Products To Avoid on Your Registry

Today I want to talk about all the baby products to avoid that let me down, but also the things I would get instead if I had a do over. I have to start this by saying, if any of the products mentioned are things you love do not take any offense. They simply just didn’t work for me and a lot of the things mentioned are good products, I just found a better alliterative to do the same thing.

Now lets get into it.

* I make a small commission from all qualified purchases from links below. *

Excessive Clothing

I think this is going to happen for most people no matter what because it is a fun gift for families to give to the new parent. I will tell you though do not feel obligated to purchase a ton of clothes for your new baby. My son didnt wear anything besides pajamas for the first few months. One because he was a covid baby and we still don’t leave the house lol. Two because I was terrified to put anything over his little newborn head. Those cute little outfits really aren’t needed in the beginning. Have just enough clothes to get you through until you can do laundry again.

Also, do not buy for all the seasons. I went so extreme I bought clothes thinking they would last until he was two. My baby ended up in 18-24 month this summer. A lot of things were wasted which I hate doing. Learn from my mistakes.

Baby Accessories

Hats, shoes, sunglasses, yes its cute I know. Do not waste money on these. My son had SO many shoes, he still to this day has barely worn shoes. he would pull sunglasses off as soon as we tried and hats ohmygosh. I had 40+ hats why I don’t know. Incase you didn’t know, babies aren’t supposed to wear hats just on the regular. It traps body heat which can be extremely harmful to them. Having a few hats for outside use is perfectly fine. My son HATED hats when he was first born and he still isn’t the biggest fan. Don’t go all out on things like this.

Kitchen Things

Boon Bottle Brushes/Drying Rack

I know this is like aesthetically pleasing, they are very cute, but this was not functional. The brushes were extremely stiff and started to fall apart very quickly. The drying rack was okay but I found it to be difficult to clean. I had to clean it all the time to keep it from molding which was just not practical with how often I had to wash bottles. I still to this day use the Munchkin Bottle brush and before buying my Baby Brezza I was using the Munchkin Drying Rack. These are half the price of the Boon products and way better.

Microwave Sterilizer

This was highly recommended to me I believe strictly because its been used for such a long time. It works fine, do not feel obligated to throw yours away. It just took so much time and I really didnt have the time. I was exclusively pumping, on top of bottle feeding my baby constantly in the beginning and this took forever, had to wash the bottles AND pump parts, sterilize them, then wait for them to air dry. When my son was about 4 months we bought a Baby Brezza and I can’t explain to you how happy it makes me. If you bottle feed I HIGHLY suggest the investment.

Chicco Polly High Chair

Now this isn’t a hate just strictly on this specific high chair, all high chairs with tons of places food can get into is a huge NO for me in the future. It wasnt so bad when we were first starting solids, and it does have some nice features which is why I chose it. Once we began having my son spoon feed himself and now with finger foods its a nightmare. I can only imagine if we would have done Baby Led Weaning from the start how much I would have disliked it. I WISH I would have gotten the IKEA highchair but it was not available to ship to me and I wasnt able to really drive to a store to get one.

Munchkin Plates

We used the suction bowls for purees so I figured the plates would work just as well. I was wrong, my son can lift these plates right off his high chair with all his food VERY easily. We will now be saving these plates for when he’s older and sticking to the ezpz Plate Mats for our meals now. I struggle to get this plate off of his high chair when he is done. :’)

Baby Lounging

Mama Roo Swing

The price tag attached to this is just not worth it for what it is. The spinning attachment is not powered you have to actually spin it, the music sounds all scratchy and horrible and my son really didnt care for it. Which from what I can tell is very common with babies. I wish I would have gotten the Fisher Price swing instead, it seems to be a classic that all babies love.

Infantino Discovery Seat and Booster

When I bought this I had plans to use this as a seat to help him learn to sit up. This is more of a booster seat which is exactly what its called lol but I guess it didnt register with me. we didn’t get much use out of this at all. He did love all the sounds it made on the front but he wouldn’t sit in it very long with out getting upset because I had to assist him in sitting up in it. I instead would have purchased the fisher price sit me up seat which would have supported him in learning to sit up.

Baby Travel

Ergo Baby Carrier

I really did not like this carrier, although al lot of people do. I could never get him it by myself, which was huge of me and he never seemed comfortable in it. In the future I will probably go with the Boppy comfy fit just based off of reviews with how easy it is to get them in and out of on your own. I really wanted to baby wear but it wasnt something that worked out of us with this item.

Cheap Stroller/ Car Seat Combo

If you are going to invest in anything for your little one, I highly suggest a good quality stroller and car seat. We registered for the basic Graco Stroller car seat combo and regretted it right away for many reasons. The carseat would stick to the base making it impossible to take in and out of the car. The stroller was only forward facing which my son HATED, along with many other small things. We went with the Chicco Corso Stroller so for my next I will probably by a Chicco carseat. This stroller reminds me a lot of the UPPA baby vista except it does not have the ability to become a double stroller which may or may not become an issue. I probably would have went with the UPPA baby from the start if I had known.

Extras

Jumper

I dont see the point in this, maybe I will if I have another one, I dont know. I have no interest in buying one again. My son was never interested in it, this isn’t something you can sit them down in and go to the bathroom, it just never made sense. you have to sit right next to them and at that point I feel he could just be on the floor with me playing. This is definitely a personal opinion dislike.

NoseFrida

This was so highly recommended by so many moms and I just dont understand why. My son will pull it apart if it even comes close to him. When I have been able to use it I can’t get it to work and Its to wide for a newborns nose. I think it would work great for older kids but we just use a basic Nasal aspirater and replace it often, works so much better.

Thats it lovelies!
