Glowing Healthy Skin With These Simple 5 Steps

So I always slightly struggled with acne but pregnancy is when it really started to become a problem. I found ways to deal with it through products we are going to talk about In this article and I figured my skin would return to normal after, I was MAJORLY wrong. I had the worse skin of my life in my beginning stages of postpartum. Sure it was hormonal, nothing can prepare you mentally or physically for the hormonal changes of having a baby. With that being said I figured someway somehow I could help my skin. Thats when these changes came into play.

The Basics

Id like to first add that most of this information could be applied to anyone with acne. It just so happen to effect me worse after pregnancy so I can’t be the only one.

No Face Touching

I think everyone will tell you this one but I still thought I would add. Do not touch, pick, or pop ANYTHING. I know how hard it is, you just want it gone.

Did you know that if a pimple is not taken care of in a proper extraction it can actually cause more acne? When popping a pimple at home you typically will push it with two fingers, this actually leads it to pop under the skin as well which causes the growth of more acne.

Peace out Skin Care actually makes Pimple patches, I was so against these until I gave them a try. You leave them on over night and it will pull it right to the surface and out.

Diet

Now this may be different for everyone but it is a known fact that foods high in sugar and dairy can cause acne. I definitely have a sweet tooth but when my son was first born we found that I needed to take dairy out of my diet while breastfeeding him and I noticed a huge difference very quickly. After doing a lot of research on it, I have found this has been extremely common in a lot of moms with postpartum acne. diary can actually cause inflammation and hormone imbalance. I still to this day limit it as much as possible.

Skincare

First I have to add in my secret tip if you missed my last self care article. Cold water washes, this is essential especially if you struggle with acne. Adding heat from warm water can actually make your acne flare up more.

Sunscreen

I always thought sunscreen would break me out more, even after going to Esthetics school and learning the importance of it. Sunscreen is a must in healing acne. Your skin can not heal if it is not protected from the sun. Especially if you decide to use any kind of chemical exfoliant, you can actually make your skin worse with out it and I think thats what I was doing to myself for so long.

Ingredients

So when I shop for skin care I keep a couple things in mind.

For one, I want the most basic clean ingredients I can find. I love brands like the Inkey List that sell straight up single ingredient products with basic carrier oils at an affordable price. Your skin really doesn’t need anything besides the basics to keep it hydrated and prepped.

When looking for the clean ingredients, I normally start with looking for clean labels such as a clean at Sephora seal. Now that doesn’t necessarily mean its completely clean but that is a great starting point.

Another thing I tend to do is look at the ingredients list to see if I can understand everything listed. If I can’t I will google them to make sure I know what I’m buying. Understanding is crucial because the sad part of the beauty industry is, a lot of the time you are paying for packaging. Always make sure the ingredients listed are worth the price.

Products

Now, lets talk about the best products I have found. I’m going to keep this short and sweet because the skin care that works for me may or may not work for you as well. Everyone is different, as we know. If you have dry/combo acne prone skin give these a try!

skin care product flat lay
  • Cleanser: Caudalie Vinopure Nature Salicylic Acid Pore Purifying Gel Cleaner This has been a go to for me, I don’t love that it does have added fragrance but my skin doesn’t seem to mind. If I spot break out coming on I will use this and BAM all clear. The Caudalie grape water complex is meant for pore clearing and adding hydration.
  • Mask: Innisfree Pore Clearing Clay Mask: This was the first Clay mask I found to clear my pores but not dry me out! we all know the tight feeling after a clay mask, that is so not good for your skins hydration. I no longer experience that with this one and the price ?! YES.
  • Serum: I LOVE all Inkey List serums, some of my favorites are the Niacinamide, Hyaluronic Acid, and the Q10. I have my reasons for all of them and feel free to comment below or DM on Instagram to talk more about it. Niacinamide is for oil control and pigment lightening. Hyaluronic Acid is for hydration, it actually traps moisture in the skin. Q10 is a defense against free radicals which can cause aging AND clogged pores.
  • Moisturizer: Belif Aqua Bomb I HIGHLY recommend this no matter what your skin type is. This is the only moisturizer I feel truly moisturized with while still being extremely lightweight and great under makeup which brings us to our next topic.

Makeup

I thought I would add this small tip to the end of our article. Clean makeup is truly just as important as clean skincare. The same rules apply. You want to avoid excess oils, mineral powders and really any ingredients you don’t understand. Now this used to not be so easy, a lot of makeup really wasn’t clean. The makeup industry is definitely grown a ton and clean makeup is everywhere.

Thats it guys, all of the things I did to help heal my skin. Thank you so much for being here! Please check out some of my previous articles listened below and ill see you next Monday. 🙂
